What are the benefits of being a WBEZ/Vocalo member?

A donation in any amount makes you a member of WBEZ or Vocalo.  All members receive the following benefits: 

Opportunities to enter member exclusive giveaways
Discounts or presale access to WBEZ curated or supported events
Access to member-only tours
Discounts and exclusive shopping opportunities at the WBEZ pop-up store

 

High Fidelity members (those making ongoing monthly gifts) also receive:

 Online access to the pledge free stream during pledge drives, quarterly emails, in conjunction with our pledge drives, that feature ticket giveaways and iPad Pro giveaways

Additional High Fidelity discounts and giveaways throughout the year

Choice of an annual thank you gift every February

 Additional benefits: 

Members who donate $120 or more one time, or $10 or more per month, will receive a WBEZ MemberCard, good for 2-for-1 deals online and throughout Chicagoland.  

Members who donate $1,000 or more one time, or $83 or more per month, are a part of our Leadership Circle cohort of members.  Leadership Circle benefits include everything listed above plus two tickets per year to a live taping of Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me…., invitations to exclusive member-only events, and access to additional Leadership Circle discounts and giveaways throughout the year

Is my donation to WBEZ tax deductible?

 Yes! WBEZ is operated by Chicago Public Media, a tax exempt 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. The entirety of your donation, minus the actual retail value of any thank you gifts you receive, is tax deductible.  WBEZ Member Services sends tax letters by January 31 every year.  Members whose financial contributions total $250 or more, or members who do not have an email address receive their tax letter via US Mail.  Members whose contributions total $249 or less and have an email address on file with us receive their tax letter via email.

How can I update the contact information associated with my membership?

You can update your payment information, phone number and address in the Member Center.

 How can I donate?

 If you would like to change your monthly giving amount or give a one-time donation you can do so here

 If you would prefer to donate via phone please call  312-948-4855. WBEZ Member Services staff will be happy to take a credit card donation via phone Monday through Friday from 9am-4pm.  

  If you would like to send a check please mail the check, payable to Chicago Public Media, to:  PO Box 71956, Chicago IL 60694-1956. 

Can I make a donation from my Donor Advised Fund?

Yes! WBEZ/Chicago Public Media’s tax identification number (EIN) is 36-3687394. Your financial institution can use the above EIN to disburse a grant from your fund to WBEZ.  While WBEZ will send a notification to thank you for your generosity, we will not furnish a letter deeming the grant tax deductible, as the deduction is taken when the funds are initially put in the DAF. Can I make a donation from my IRA to meet my account’s required minimum distribution?

Yes! However, please note in accordance with the Protecting Americans Against Tax Hikes Act of 2015, certain member benefits, such as thank you gifts, cannot be distributed in exchange for financial contributions from an IRA. I received my thank you gift, but it was broken/I never received my thank you gift. What do I do? 

Please contact WBEZ Member Services via phone Monday-Friday from 9am-4pm at 312.948.4855 or via email at membership@wbez.org.  WBEZ Member Services is happy to instruct our vendor to issue a replacement gift at no charge. 

How do I request a new MemberCard? 

Please contact WBEZ Member Services at membership@wbez.org or 312-948-4855 to request your MemberCard.

 I have a car/motorcycle/boat I would like to donate. How can I do that?

My company will match  my donation.  How do I set that up? 

Please send an email to matchinggifts@wbez.org.  The appropriate staff member will respond with instructions.  Please note, any amount matched by a WBEZ member’s employer is not reflected in the member’s total donation amount, as the matching funds are provided by the employer.

I’m having trouble with the WBEZ app or livestream. 

For trouble with the livestream on WBEZ.org or the mobile app, please contact WBEZ member services via email at membership@wbez.org.  Let us know what device you are using (PC, MAC, make and model of your phone or other mobile device) and the method with which you are accessing the broadcast stream (WBEZ App, wbez.org). Please outline, in detail, any steps you have taken in an attempt to correct the problem. If possible, please include a screenshot of any error messages you might be receiving. This will allow us to individualize our technical support with our digital product team . 

 How can I update my payment information for my monthly donation? 

You can update your credit card number, expiration date and CVV number through the WBEZ Member Center: donate.wbez.org/user To update payment information over the phone, including account and routing numbers for donations made via ACH, please contact WBEZ Member Services by phone at 312-948-4855. In an effort to help WBEZ remain compliant with federal regulations, please do not include any credit card or other account information in an email or voicemail. 

How can I submit programming feedback? 

To share critical and positive feedback with WBEZ’s newsroom and programming staff, please send an email to membership@wbez.org, or call WBEZ member services at 312-948-4855.  All feedback is compiled into a report that is shared with WBEZ’s senior leadership on a monthly basis.  For feedback pertaining to national programming produced by NPR and broadcast by WBEZ, you can contact NPR directly: https://help.npr.org/contact/s/
